Pennsylvania's Elk Herds

Ride the Elk Scenic Drive and celebrate the Kings of the Hill.

An inch a day. That’s how much elk antlers grow during the "velvet" stage of spring, when the antlers themselves begin to calcify.

Want to learn more about elk and Pennsylvania's rich elk heritage?

Join the elk herd of some 900 animals on the grounds of the Elk Country Visitor Center, set on a 245-acre on Winslow Hill. Enjoy elk bugling and archery contests, a tactile discussion on all-things antler, and a conversation with Brad Clinton, producer of  the TV show "TomBob Outdoors Friends in Wild Places."

Meet the Deer Lady from Cook Forest, take the family on a horse-drawn wagon ride along elk-viewing trails, even share your trophies with antler-scoring experts, the folks who help determine a score for your big buck. Your elk extravaganza is not complete unless you immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, and even smells of these majestic creatures with the visitor center's multi-sensory 4-D movie about the story of Pennsylvania’s elk herd.
