Spanning more than 300,000 rugged acres, Sproul State Forest is a true wilderness escape in the heart of Pennsylvania. Cast your line in top-rated Class A trout streams like Kettle Creek, Young Womans Creek, and the Cross Fork area—prime spots for both fishing and fly fishing. Explore remote trails like the Chuck Keiper Trail (a 50-mile double loop) and the 90-mile Donut Hole Trail, or take on shorter hikes like the T-Squared and Eagleton Mine Camp trails. This untamed forest is also home to one of the state’s most impressive elk populations. Head toward the remote areas near the Elk Scenic Drive or Driftwood for your best chance at elk viewing, especially in the early morning or evening hours. Sproul is a playground for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, primitive camping, ATV adventures, and winter sports—all in one of Pennsylvania’s largest and wildest state forests.
