Camping in Pennsylvania

Pack up your s’mores, snag some friends and pitch a tent (or cozy up in a cabin) in PA

Sleeping under the stars is a time-honored tradition in Pennsylvania state parks, whether your family escapes to a cabin or a tent by the creek.

Cabin Camping

Staying overnight is a must at Upstate PA’s Ricketts Glen Park in order to hit all its attractions. Modern cabins (with kitchen and bathroom amenities) are available year ’round along with a 120-site campground.

Rustic cabins (with fireplaces and outdoor restrooms) await campers around the 42-acre lake and many hiking trails throughout Cowans Gap near Chambersburg

Modern and rustic cabins, deluxe camping cottages, and a 74-site campground round out the overnight options at the scenic Black Moshannon Park near State College, tucked in the remote setting surrounded by state forest and restored swampland.

The campground at Gifford Pinchot State Park in York County offers yurts (round tent-like shelters with kitchen amenities) or camping cottages (enclosed bunk rooms) with views of the lake.

Classic Car Camping

Camping is available year ’round at French Creek near Pottstown, at 200 wooded, modern sites within easy access to shower and flush toilet facilities. More than 60 sites have electric hookups.

Lackawanna Lake, the 198-acre centerpiece of Lackawanna State Park, is surrounded by picnic areas and multi-use trails winding through the forest. The campground is within walking distance of the lake and pool.

Camping With the Kids

Camping trips are a great way to expose young children to the natural world, even though they might not sleep very much. Use these guidelines to make sure the whole family enjoys a camping trip.

Seek full-service bathrooms. Kids get muddy in the woods.  Avoid RV sites (unless you're inside one). The generators running all night can distract little ones in a new sleeping environment. Look for lakes! Kids love to swim, skip stones or paddle rented canoes. Pick a shaded campsite to prevent sunburn during the day.

Find the perfect campground for your PA vacation.
