For year-round family fun, Mercer County in the northwestern corner of Pennsylvania offers plenty of things to do for all ages. Whether your little ones want to see wild animals or your teenagers want to enjoy outdoor activities, try these ideas for a memorable family vacation.

Keystone Safari

Take the whole family on a wild excursion in Grove City at Keystone Safari, a newly opened interactive animal adventure park with more than 100 animals representing 20 species. Get up close when you feed the park’s giraffes, barnyard animals, and more. During warm weather months, little ones will love jumping in the animal-themed bounce house park, while teens and parents can strap into the zip-line adventure course for an unforgettable aerial adventure. Brand new for summer 2019, hop on a custom safari bus during the hour-long Safari Tour, which explores 90 acres of the park where large animals roam freely.

Hell’s Hollow Wildlife Adventure Trail

For a day in the great outdoors, explore the Hell’s Hollow Wildlife Adventure Trail in Mercer, which meanders through hills, valleys and lush forests. Hike, bike ride or trail buggy ride along the 4-mile trail, and along the way, see the “haunted” waterfall (Spirit Falls), beaver dams at Lackawannock Lake, Native American hunting grounds, historic buildings such as remnants of an iron ore furnace and a stone house, and animals in the wild—everything from deer to eagles.

Shenango River Water Trail

Get out on the water with a kayaking or rafting adventure on the Shenango River Water Trail. With multiple launch points, you can choose your own adventure with 1, 4, 8, 12, or 23 miles of easy-flowing Class I float time. Book a boating trip with Carried Away Outfitters or Pymatuning Rental and Information Center , which includes boat rentals and a convenient shuttle to and from your drop-off and pick-up points. Along the way, stop your boat in Greenville to enjoy a picnic lunch or bike the Shenango River bike trail at Riverside Park.

Santa’s Christmasland and Easter Bunny Lane at Kraynak’s

For seasonal family fun, celebrate the holidays at the historic Kraynak’s shop in Hermitage, a whimsical retail shop that transforms into the home of Santa’s Christmasland in the winter and Easter Bunnylane in the springtime. For Easter, marvel at the 300 feet avenue of lighted trees and animated figures at work and play, or during the Christmas season, marvel at the twinkling holiday lights, Christmas scenes and decorated trees. Year-round, visitors will be amazed at the sprawling Toyland, filled with toys and games, as well as a flower shop, greenhouse, model trains, and a candy department.
