Coudersport, PA
Region: Pennsylvania Wilds
The Susquehannock State Forest got Coudersport off to its start as a lumber center in 1880, but by 1920, the town's timber boom was over. Brotherhood lasts forever, however: the Scottish Rite Freemasons built the nation's largest consistory here in 1889, and it still stands. Visitors today can learn about the town's early history at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum or just tour the historic downtown. Denton Hill State Park provides outdoor entertainment, and golfers can explore the region's many courses. Fisherfolk can angle for a 20-incher at the Rainbow Paradise Trout Farm's two-acre lake.
