Winter Wonder at Longwood Gardens

Step into a winter botanical wonderland at Longwood Gardens’ Winter Wonder, where tropical blooms and dramatic flower installations fill the conservatory and make for an ideal escape from chilly weather until March. After dark, the Garden Glow experience lights up the gardens with sparkling installations and biodegradable sparklers on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings from now until March 8th. While Winter Wonder is included with museum admission, Garden Glow tickets are purchased separately and include all-day Gardens admission with same-day re-entry.

Penguins on Parade

Waddle your way to the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium this February for Penguins on Parade! Included with admission, watch as the playful penguins stroll along the pathway greeting guests, weather permitting. Join zoo patrons who line the pathway along the aquarium in preparation for the penguins to strut their stuff, starting promptly at 11:30 a.m.

Snow Geese Migration

Every year like clockwork Snow Geese return to Middle Creek Lake in southcentral PA in mid-February, resting and bulking up before leaving for their summer nesting grounds on the artic tundra. It’s a simply breathtaking sight (and one to put on your “life list”) to see tens of thousands of Snow Geese and other waterfowl resting on the lake, even if you aren’t into bird watching!

Tip: The best times to see these beautiful birds are at sunrise before they leave the lake to feed in the nearby fields and at sunset when they return.

Groundhog Day 2026

Get ready for one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic winter traditions when Groundhog Day returns on February 2 in Punxsutawney. Head to historic Gobbler’s Knob just before sunrise to witness Punxsutawney Phil make his annual weather forecast. Will we get an early spring to see PA in full bloom or six more weeks of winter adventure? The celebration draws thousands with fun activities, local food vendors, live music and souvenir shopping that make this quirky weather ritual a must-see Pennsylvania experience. The main event is free, but find other ticketed events throughout the week to get the full Groundhog Day experience in Punxsutawney.

Friend of the Park's Hot Chocolate Walk

Warm up your walk through Indiana County at the annual Hot Chocolate Walk presented by Friends of the Park. Choose an easy paved stroll or a more moderate trail walk through scenic Blue Spruce Park, then cozy up with a complimentary cup of hot chocolate at the finish. This relaxed, free morning event is part of the Indiana County Walking Decathlon, perfect for families and friends looking to beat the winter blues together.

Winterfest at Ohiopyle State Park

Make family memories at Winterfest in Ohiopyle State Park! Celebrate the season with sledding, free snowshoe and cross-country ski demos, and stunning natural scenery at this winter tradition in the Laurel Highlands. Horse-drawn sleigh rides and refreshments are available for an extra charge while you explore the snow-covered park. New this year, there will also be history related programs throughout the day to celebrate the country's 250th anniversary.

The Philadelphia Flower Show
