Cliveden offers free tours of the house and grounds every second Saturday of the month, May to October, part of the Second Saturdays at Cliveden programming. Tours begin in the Cliveden Barn and run from 12pm to 4pm, starting on the hour. The last tour of the day is at 3pm. Tours include the grounds, first and second floors of the house, the 1767 Kitchen Dependency, and our current exhibit, The Turmoil of Transition: The mid-nineteenth century at Cliveden. Each tour is a one-hour experience. The Turmoil of Transition: The mid-nineteenth century at Cliveden explores a household in turmoil and mourning over the death of husband and father, Benjamin Chew, Jr. This exhibit explores mourning practices, household dynamics, substance abuse and violence, exacerbated by societal shifts of the mid-19th century and still relevant today.
