It’s summertime and the living is easy — especially if you're floating down any of Pennsylvania’s 86,000 miles of rivers and streams. Kick back, dip your toes in the water, let the sun warm your face, and take a float with your friends in your favorite tube this summer.
1. Juniata River
Mifflintown
Buttonwood Campground has a great outdoor experience for its campers. You can stay overnight in your tent/RV or rent one of their cabins, then grab a tube and enjoy a slow-moving, peaceful float down the Juniata River. On the way, you’ll pass by beautiful farmlands, dense woods, rolling ridges, and the small towns of Juniata County. Choose your adventure with trips ranging from three to 15 miles — then get picked up downstream!
2. Stoneycreek River
Johnstown
Stonycreek River’s Coal Tubin' has tubes for everyone, including children’s tubes, and even a tube for your cooler to ensure you stay hydrated in the summer heat. Craving something more challenging? They offer one of the country’s only whitewater tubing experiences through the heart-pumping class II and III rapids of Stonycreek Canyon.
3. Delaware River
Point Pleasant
Bucks County River Country is well known for providing family fun with relaxing tube or raft rides down the Delaware River. For the ultimate in tubing comfort, be sure to rent a tube with a backrest and cupholder. Afterward, enjoy a BBQ lunch on the sandy beach at their Red Mushroom Cafe.
4. Schuylkill River
Port Providence
Port Providence Paddle offers one of the best options to spend a day on the Schuylkill River with a leisurely 2.5-mile ride. The takeout point is just a short walk from the historic Fitzwater Station, a 19th century bar & restaurant on the Schuylkill Canal, where you and your friends can enjoy delicious eats — including beef and seafood entrees — along with a variety of appetizers and sandwiches.
5. Kiski River
Leechburg
Time to kick back on the Kiski River! At The River’s Edge Canoe and Kayak, you can get ready for the water in the changing station, rent a tube, unwind on your float, ride the shuttle return service, and grab a snack for the way home. Thursdays are Ladies Days, so grab a boatful of your favorite gal friends for a day of fun on the Kiski!
6. Brandywine River
West Chester
Let the lazy current of the Brandywine River do all the work as you float downstream. The Northbrook Canoe Company in West Chester has all the gear you need for your trip, including cooler tubes, water shoes, sunglasses straps, and water blasters for a little extra fun.
7. Greenville River
Greenville
Let your hair down and get carried away while tubing down the Greenville River with Carried Away Outfitters! Guests can choose between a short one-mile or extended four-mile trip. If you’re in search of a different experience, try a Full Moon Floats by kayak or paddleboard.
8. Lehigh River
Lehighton
Get ready for some summertime fun with Pocono River Tubing on the Lehigh River. They provide the tubes and transportation back to the start, and the Lehigh River provides the fun and guaranteed way to beat the summer heat. There’s even a little whitewater tubing to add to the fun!
