Pocono Mountains

You'll notice a dramatic change in scenery in this region as you cross under the Lehigh Tunnel and into the Pocono Mountains. In this endless outdoor playground, you'll find steep mountains with cloud-covered peaks great for hiking, biking, fishing and canoeing. You'll come across destinations like Lehigh Gorge State Park, with miles of trails for hikers and bikers to enjoy. There's also Jim Thorpe, the heart of the East Coast's cycling scene. Yep, heart-racing adventures at every turn. But that's what you signed up for, right? The Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark has hours of family-friendly activities for you. And yeah, it's a little easier on the legs than a day in the woods. Speaking of easy on the legs, we'd recommend a relaxing stop at Skyview Spa at Skytop Lodge. It'll give you a chance to recharge before you head back on the road. Pay a visit to the Columns Museum in Pike County. They'll take you on a journey through the centuries as you uncover the area's unique roots. The Grey Towers in Glenside has been giving travelers a historic photo op since the 1800s. Then there's the town of Milford, right along the banks of the Delaware River. There you'll catch guided tours along the river, and come across shops and great B&Bs. Stop by The Crossings Premium Outlets to stock up for your journey through the Poconos. You'll want to pick up a pair of comfortable hiking shoes for a brisk afternoon walk through the woods. Hickory Run State Park and Boulder Field has acres of land sure to break in the toughest of hiking footwear. And Jack Frost Big Boulder Ski Area is a skier's paradise. Even if you're a seasoned snow bunny, you may want to start slow and work your way up to the expert slopes. It gets steep up there. Then take off those snowshoes and kick up your feet in a warm and cozy hotel, cabin or B&B. You've earned a good night's sleep.
