In March and April, we will be conducting Census outreach to expand awareness and understanding of Census activities for the LGBT population. We will facilitate participation in the Census by opening our cyber center to anyone wishing to complete an online Census form. We will fight misinformation and disinformation by hosting an information and resource fair on Wednesday, April 22 from 3-7 pm. The stakes are high, as previous Census data has indicated that Allentown is the third-largest home to same-sex couples in the state of Pennsylvania, more than half of housing units in Allentown are occupied by renters, and nearly two-thirds of Allentown residents are people of color. High participation in the Census will mean increased funding for community services, fair representation in Congress, and better enforcement of civil rights. Get community members on board with our work by letting them know: The Census matters, and so should we! Questions? Check-in with Katie Suppes about how to incorporate Census outreach into other center programs!
