The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts (CPFA) was founded in 1967 by the State College Chamber of Commerce and Penn State’s College of Arts and Architecture to bring economic activity to State College as folks enjoyed the arts. Today, the CPFA is one of the largest arts festivals in Pennsylvania, drawing approximately 150,000 people to State College each year. The CPFA encompasses a full day of special activities for young people on Wednesday followed by a nationally recognized outdoor fine art and craft fair, the Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition; a juried gallery exhibition; a demonstration of street painting; a banner competition; and performances by musicians, dancers, thespians and other performing artists at four outdoor stages. With a wide variety of food vendors, family activities, and creative interactions, the Festival truly has something for everyone! The bulk of our event takes place over a five-day period in early to mid-July. Our juried gallery exhibition is open to the public for the entire month of July.
