Influenced by artists from Chopin to Michael Jackson, Barron Ryan, a pianist and composer from Tulsa, Oklahoma was commissioned by his home City to commemorate the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921. Inspired by a survivor’s account, Ryan’s three movements are based on Psalms 88 and 89: “My Soul Is Full of Troubles,” “Unto Thee Have I Cried,” and ending in victory with “The Heavens Shall Praise Thy Wonders.”
