The Dutch Country Roads region is renowned for its place in Civil War history. If you've never visited Gettysburg, this is the time! The site of the largest and bloodiest battle of the conflict, this town and the fields surrounding it are chockablock with monuments, markers, museums, and more. Take a driving tour of the battlefield by day and a candlelit ghost tour of the town by night.
Done with Gettysburg? Branch out a bit and explore the other towns that saw action. Chambersburg, which was occupied three times during the war, is a particularly charming place to visit. And our cosmopolitan capital, Harrisburg, is also a must-see. Each town boasts its own collection of historic sites, museums, and unique attractions that are sure to thrill any history enthusiast. And in most places, you'll also find a good amount of Underground Railroad history.
