Route: Creek Road in Mercer County near Sandy Lake
Although the Lake Wilhelm Scenic Byway is only 6.4 miles long, it packs lots of fun in a short distance. The Byway follows part of the paved bike trail around the 1,860-acre lake in Maurice K. Goddard State Park, a wonderful place to play for hikers, picnickers, bicyclists, and anglers.
There's a marina for sailors and powerboaters, and birders will enjoy the wonderful views of ospreys, bald eagles, and waterfowl from the observation platform near the marina. Nearby Sugar Lake is another must-stop for gorgeous scenery and wildlife. All along the way, roadtrippers can catch glimpses of the country life that makes the state the quintessential rural getaway.

Kayaking Western PA
Submitted By: Jeff & Kym Christy
Last year, at the age of 52, my wife and I, and friends started kayaking the streams, rivers and lakes of Western PA. We came across this old dam on Henry Run while kayaking the Clarion River this past Memorial Day weekend. There are numerous remote, scenic areas that can only be explored from the water, not to mention the relaxation experienced floating down a lazy stream. PA has stunning beauty if we just stop and look around.
Best Memorial Day ever

The weekend prior we did Jim Thorpe, PA, the coolest little town in the state. For Memorial Day we went to where it all began: Philly! The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, our beloved Phillies and, of course, a "Whiz Wit" at Pat's. The next day was the amazing Art Museum, and, oh yeah, shocking my girlfriend at LOVE Park!
National Road

When we head East for vacation, we always take this old road. The scenery is beautiful, and we like seeing the old highway markers. It's a lot less stressful than the big highways.
