Delaware River Valley

Route: 611, Little Creek Road and Belvidere Highway, Northampton County

Winding through 17 miles of beautiful Northampton County, you'll pass by preserved farmland, historic landmarks, magnificent countryside views, and some of the oldest towns in the region.

Check out the newly constructed Welcome Center in Riverton, built with green design (solar panels, constructed wetlands, rain gardens), next to the 7 mile Tekening Hiking Trails which parallel the cliffs overlooking the Wild & Scenic Delaware River, a fisherman's haven for small mouth bass, Walleye, pickerel and muskie. The Delaware can also be accessed by two boat ramps (one on Route 611 and one on Depues Road, off Martins Creek-Belvidere Highway).

  • Kayaking Western PA

    Kayaking Western PA

Last year, at the age of 52, my wife and I, and friends started kayaking the streams, rivers and lakes of Western PA. We came across this old dam on Henry Run while kayaking the Clarion River this past Memorial Day weekend. There are numerous remote, scenic areas that can only be explored from the water, not to mention the relaxation experienced floating down a lazy stream. PA has stunning beauty if we just stop and look around.

The weekend prior we did Jim Thorpe, PA, the coolest little town in the state. For Memorial Day we went to where it all began: Philly! The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, our beloved Phillies and, of course, a "Whiz Wit" at Pat's. The next day was the amazing Art Museum, and, oh yeah, shocking my girlfriend at LOVE Park!

When we head East for vacation, we always take this old road. The scenery is beautiful, and we like seeing the old highway markers. It's a lot less stressful than the big highways.
