Destinations in this Roadtrip:

  • Historic Tunkhannock Viaduct
The Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct, the world's largest concrete railroad bridge, was part of a major improvement to the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. Commonly called the Nicholson Bridge, it was constructed from 1912 to 1915. The bridge is 2,375 feet long, 34 feet wide, and 300 feet in extreme height from the top of the parapet to bottom of deepest foundation pit. Accessible from Routes 11 and 92.
  • State Game Land 57
Rugged beauty and feral wildlife make up the 36,506 acres of game land in State Game Land 57. Located in Wyoming County, the town of Noxen lies close by.
  • Worlds End State Park
Virtually in a class by itself, this wild, rugged and rustic area seems almost untamed. Camping, cabins and hiking on the Loyalsock Trail attract many visitors to Worlds End State Park. The scenery is spectacular, especially the June mountain laurel and fall foliage. Canyon Vista, reached via Mineral Spring and Cold Run Roads, provides outstanding views.

The 19 rustic cabins are available for rent year-round. A 70-site tent and trailer campground is located along Route 154, one mile east of the park office. Water and restrooms are located within a short distance of all sites. Showers are located in both loops. A dumping station is available.

A small dam on Loyalsock Creek forms a swimming area that is open daily from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day unless otherwise posted. The mountain stream water is always cold and exhilarating.

The main picnic area is located along Loyalsock Creek just upstream of the swimming area. Picnickers are asked to dispose of hot charcoal in the facilities provided.

Whitewater boaters may use the Loyalsock Creek at any time of the year although the area by the swimming beach is closed during the summer. Due to rapid fluctuations in water level, kayakers should inquire about conditions before coming to the park.

Loyalsock Creek is stocked with trout each year by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. The cold mountain water provides good fishing most of the year.

Other trails of varying length are available within the park. All trails are steep and rocky. Hikers are urged to wear sturdy footgear, stay on marked trails and carry a map.

Several miles of park road are used as joint use snowmobile trails. Additionally, many trails have been designated on nearby state forest land. A trailhead is established along the Double Run Road to Eagles Mere, a short distance south of the park. Several park areas are suitable for nordic skiing.
