Monongahela Incline The Monongahela Incline opened May 28, 1870. It is the oldest and steepest incline in the United States, as well as the nation's oldest cable car operation. The incline enabled people to live 600 feet above the city, yet have easy access to business and factories below. Visit this historic structure.
