Underground Railroad Center at Historic Zercher's Hotel Located in the former Zercher's Hotel in Christiana, Lancaster County, the Underground Railroad Center presents an overview of the Christiana Resistance, which occurred nearby on September 11, 1851. It also describes the area's anti-slavery activities and role in the Underground Railroad. Historical and contemporary photographs, maps, text panels, and small artifacts explain the Resistance, which undercut efforts to enforce the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law and deeply polarized the nation. The free exhibit also documents the homes of 24 Underground Railroad Stationmasters and features several other historic sites in Lancaster and Chester counties, such as churches, cemeteries and private buildings.
