Destinations in this Roadtrip:

  • Independence National Historical Park
The most historic square mile in the most historic city in America. Independence National Historical Park, locally referred to as Independence Mall, covers several blocks of Old City Philadelphia. All of the park buildings and sites are associated with colonial Philadelphia and the American Revolution. Major attractions include the Liberty Bell, Christ Church, Independence Hall and City Tavern. Spanning approximately 45 acres, the park has about 20 buildings open to the public.
  • Reading Terminal Market
This historic farmer's market in downtown Philadelphia opened in 1892 and is a favorite among locals as well as visitors. Choose among the homemade Amish specialties, fresh produce, fresh seafood, and tasty meats and poultry. Browse the hand-made crafts and visit one of the many ethnic restaurants.
  • Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church
Walk on hallowed ground, the mother church of the nation's first black denomination. Don't miss its collection of huge stained glass windows. Mother Bethel AME is the oldest piece of property continously owned by African Americans and founded by Richard Allen in 1792. Tour the museum in the basement which contains Allen's tomb and other 19th-century artifacts. The archives hold pre-civil war documents and magazines. The church is open from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and on Sunday following the services at 8:00 a.m. A donation is requested.
