Whether you enjoy antiquing, outdoor shoppes and outlets, malls or flea markets, Pennsylvania has no tax shopping on clothing to help fill your shopping bags, starting with serious outlet shopping of the bargain variety. There are tons of destinations throughout the state, including Lancaster’s Tanger Outlet Center and Rockvale Outlets that feature all your favorites, plus plenty of nearby restaurants for a mid-day refuel. And just down the pike, in New Oxford there’s the Antique Dealer’s Association which features over 500 antique dealers in this unique pleasant town. Come see why New Oxford is called the antiques capital of central Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia shopping is another story. And did we mention there’s no sales tax on clothing in the state? . The Premium Outlets in Limerick include the usual suspects. Then there’s Franklin Mills in the Northeast, the big mama, all-under-one-roof outlet emporium that is literally a shopping day unto itself. Head into Philadelphia and hit some of the local’s favorite shopping districts, like Rittenhouse Row, full of chic boutiques; Antique Row, with everything from low- to high-brow options. And of course, get thee out to King of Prussia Mall for your pick of luxury, from Hermes to Neiman Marcus and everything in between.
Our country markets offer fresh produce, delicious baked goods, homemade fudge, (find a trademark whoopee pie!) and other tasty treats. Try The Spring House in Eighty Four, PA (near Pittsburgh) or The Co-Operative Farmers Market in Scranton. All merchants stand by the same mantra: all products are home-grown and freshly picked by the farm members.
Every sort of whatnot can be yours to discover in Pennsylvania’s Flee markets. Renninger’s in Adamstown is just the kind of indoor/outdoor all-in-one place a flea-market pro will find heaven. Try Ten Thousand Villages in Media, a not for profit retailer and the first fair trade town in the Americas full of home decor, personal accessories and gift items handcrafted by artisans from around the world.
And who doesn’t love a local artist, Authentic Americana is around every corner on Pennsylvania’s Artisan Trails. Get to know our artists, explore our hidden treasures and pick up some hand crafted workmanship from our local potters, quilters, glassblowers and other creative folks who make every day objects that reflect our heritage.
Whew! With a state full of this many shopping opportunities it is no wonder Pennsylvania is a popular destination for out-of-state shopping.
River's Edge Studio

There's a great new "cool" gallery at 709 3rd Ave. in New Brighton run by artists who show their work. And there's a working studio in the back where you can take classes. Most of the art work is contemporary.
Festivals in State College

The Central PA Arts Fest is held every July and although it's usually the hottest week of the year, it's always a lot of fun. There are hundreds of art vendors located on the streets of downtown State College and on Penn State campus. There's also a People's Choice Festival the same weekend held in Boalsburg (5 mins. from State College) which features only PA artisans and is smaller and a lot more reasonably priced- very popular with the local residents. I highly recommend it!

Annual after Thanksgiving trip
Submitted By: hobbesmom
For over 20 years my mother, sister, nieces and I have come to Lancaster County for shopping and eating the day after Thanksgiving. My nieces have grown up doing this and look forward to the trip every year. Sadly, Mom passed away five years ago, and our sister-in-law now comes with us. Mom loved coming to Lancaster, and though we are sad not to have her with us, but the memories of past trips with her have her with us in spirit.
Bradford's Tea Shop

We have a wonderful new tea shop in Bradford. It is located in the historic Congress Street Diner in the heart of downtown Bradford. The Tea shop serves hot tea and scones. It has many wonderful tea things and antique and new merchandise, for sale. The ladies of the tea shop are always ready to help with a purchase or to sit and have a cup of tea with a customer.
