The Tour De Tykes has been a favorite of mine for a long time. It is super hard: lots of climbing and some loose, rocky descents. One would not expect a sub-20 mile race to be so challenging, but it never disappoints. The course is located behind Geisinger Medical Center and its proceeds benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.
This time around, there was a strong showing of talent: regional pros Brandon Draugelis (Cannondale), Chris Beck (Gary Fisher/Subaru), Kyle Hammaker (Scott Bicycle) and many other strong riders toed the line. At the gun, it was Draugelis and Beck who led the charge into the woods. I held third position and was soon passed by one of the Alesio twins. Hammaker threatened to pass but never did. During the final miles of the race, Beck flatted and I passed him. All I had to do was ride a couple more miles without mishap and I would be 3rd place. I did.
Nancy rode well also, earning a top 5 place amongst the Elite women.
Thanks to Chris for promoting a great event and to our team sponsors for all their support!
