Spring Mountain Cyclocross

As the season winds down there is still a little bit of racing to go. After a well needed break for vacation to sunny Florida I am back in the racing groove. As nice as Florida was, I realized how much I like PA: the change of seasons, the colors, the cold crisp air and the 30 degree temps to race cross all made me feel back at home this weekend.
The racing hiatus was broken with two local races: the Wonderland cross race in Lancaster & Spring Mountain cross race in East Salford Township. Saturday was bitter cold with snow on the ground and in the air. Once the body warmed up I realized again just how much fun it is to ride and race a bike. The race went well, but I came up just short and finished second by five seconds.
Sunday brought a new venue and legs that were a little bit more ready for the task at hand. After a safe start, avoiding the big pile-up behind me, I quickly went to the front to stay out of trouble. Taking the clean lines through the numerous 180's on the course, I was able to consistently pull away. The Cannondale bikes performed awesome and the legs were back. Although it was just a small local race, it is always good to get a win.
With just the State Championships to go (next weekend), the long season is winding down at last. Hopefully the State Championships will yield two titles for the team.
