The Freeport Theatre Festival is a summer, community theatre located on a farm in the Allegheny-Kiski River Valley area of Western Pennsylvania. Founded in 1989 by husband-and-wife team, Rennick and Marushka Steele, in a rural area where steel production was once the hub of daily activity. The palpable depression of the area in 1989 was the inspiration to found a theatre as a means to serve the valley's communities with plays chosen to lift spirits and to entertain, as well as provide an outlet for area youth to become involved in a different kind of "team" atmosphere.
