In the 1790's, a Pennsylvania German tanner named Daniel Royer bought 150 acres of land along the east branch of the Antietam Creek and developed a self-sustaining farmstead. Two centuries later much is unchanged on the 107 acres. In 1975, through a gift the land and buildings became a public museum and park through the generosity of the last owner, Emma Nicodemus and her sister Hazel Geiser. Renfrew (so named due to a local legend) also houses the largest permanent public collection of the 19th century Shenandoah potters, John Bell and family. Renfrew Museum season runs from mid-April until middle of October with the hours of operation: Tuesday - Friday noon-4:00p.m. and weekend hours- 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m. Admissions: Adults $5, Seniors (65 and over) $4.50 and children ages 7 and older $3.50. Renfrew Park is open 365 days a year from dawn until dusk.
