Settlement Music School is the largest community school of the arts in the United States, serving 15,000 students of all ages, backgrounds and abilities each year through outreach services and on site at six branches in South, West and Northeast Philadelphia, Germantown, Jenkintown and Camden, New Jersey. Founded in 1908 by Blanche Wolf Kohn and Jeanette Selig Frank, Settlement offers high quality music and dance instruction and is a vital force in the communities it serves, bringing together an enormous diversity of students and providing many instruction and performance opportunities otherwise unavailable to them. Settlement awards close to $2 million annually in aid and is the largest employer of musicians in the region. Since 1982, composer Robert Capanna has been the executive director.
