The forest consists of 5 tracts covering more than 70,000 acres offering hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, ATV riding, mountain biking, horseback riding and more. Fifteen miles of both the Mid-state and Tucarora trails pass through this forest. Many other local trails provide access deep into the forest. Long and short distance hiking opportunities. Always let someone know when and where you will be hiking. Leave no trace of your activities. Trails within the forest are open to mountain biking. Most trails are kept clear over the summer. Trails within the forest are open to horseback riding. Primitive campers spending no more than one night at a campsite typically do not need a camping permit, with certain exceptions. Primitive camping is carry in, carry out. Contact the district office for: maps and self-guiding brochures, to find out which trails are better for riding and for camping permit information.
