Roaring Run Trail

Local: 724-478-3366
Following the trail, you'll notice three waterfalls overhung with mountain laurel. Look for a basswood tree growing nearby and notice how the stream cuts through the huge boulders. Your journey will end where Roaring Run empties into the Kiskiminetas River. Look for the Guard lock and dam on the river before you leave. The trail was built upon an abandoned railroad grade extending along the Kiskiminetas River upstream from Apollo. At the initial cost of about $25,000 (public and private grants and donations), we have developed one and one-half miles of trail for hiking, skiing, and bicycling. In the Fall of 1998, we extended the improved portion of the trail by about one-half a mile, resulting in a trail of slightly more than two miles. It is bordered by a mowed grass strip with the Kiski River on one side, a wooded hillside on the other, and rest benches at intervals. A parking lot, portable toilet, picnic area, pavillion, and river access are situated at the trailhead.
