Route: 3011 connects Route 6, East of Mt. Jewett, McKean County
Head just east of Mt. Jewett, where Pennsylvania's famed Route 6 curves through the lush hardwood forests of the Allegheny National Forest, past a maple syrup farm, and wetlands on the way to Kinzua Bridge State Park, home of the Kinzua Viaduct. This engineering marvel, completed in 1882, was touted as the highest and longest railroad viaduct in the world. But a tornado toppled 11 of the 20 towers in 2003, leaving blue sky that only emphasizes the awe-inspiring breadth of this mighty gorge.
The nearby town of Bradford is also worth exploring. This historic town was once a lumber and oil capital, and its past lives on in its national Historic District. Check out Main Street for charming little shops offering antiques, chocolates, clothing, gifts, and collectibles. Other notable attractions include the Crook Farm Homestead, an 1800s farm and one-room schoolhouse, and the world-famous Zippo/Case Visitors Center.
Wrap up your travels with a winery tour at the nature and wildlife-themed Flickerwood Wine Cellars, located in Kane, PA.
