Soldiers & Sailors National Military Museum in the Oakland cultural district of the city was originated by the Grand Army of the Republic in 1906. The museum looks at the stories and sacrifices of local heroes from the Civil War through present day military conflicts. We honor those who served our country in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and Merchant Marines as well as the Homefront in times of peace and conflict.
