The Academy is the place for people of all ages to experience natural science in a fun and engaging way. Visitors can stroll through a live tropical butterfly garden, touch live animals, get face-to-face with a towering T. rex  and other dinosaurs, dig for fossils, meet scientists, explore historic dioramas, see changing exhibits, and much more. Live animal shows, behind-the-scenes tours of the museum's 18 million animal and plant specimens, engaging videos, and other cool science activities make the natural experience come alive. Founded in 1812, the Academy is a leading natural history museum dedicated to advancing research, education and public engagement in biodiversity and environmental science. It is the oldest natural history museum in the Americas. Open Mon. - Fri. 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; weekends and holidays 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
