Founded in 1812, The Academy of Natural Sciences is the oldest natural science research institution and museum in the Americas. The museum features fun, hands-on exhibitions for both adults and children. Inspired by the Academy's own biodiversity and environmental research around the globe, the museum features several changing exhibits each year. Permanent features include Dinosaur Hall with a working dig site and paleo lab; an indoor tropical garden with live butterflies; live animals to touch; and stunning historic dioramas with animals from around the world. Naturalist shows, behind-the-scenes tours of 17 million animal and plant specimens, crafts and other activities make the natural experience come alive. Sleep overs, scout programs, guest speakers, birthday parties. The Academy's mission is the encouragement and cultivation of the sciences. Open Mon. - Fri. 10:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; weekends and holidays 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Become a member and receive free admission.
