Pine Creek Rail Trail runs along the floor of Pine Creek Gorge, from Ansonia to Route 220, in Tioga and Lycoming counties. The 62-mile trail passes through one of the most extensively forested regions of the state, which supports significant populations of forest interior birds. In Lycoming County, it also passes through active and abandoned cropland, brushy areas, mature forests and wetlands. Species like Scarlet Tanager, Blackburnian Warbler and Pileated Woodpecker are regularly viewed. Yellow, Canada and Nashville warblers occur in summer. Common Merganser nest along the creek, as do Bald Eagle. Hiking, biking and horseback riding provide opportunities to see rock outcrops, wildlife, rare plants and native red pine. Other year-round birds found in the gorge include Black-capped Chickadee, Belted Kingfisher, Northern Saw-whet Owl, Red-tailed Hawk and Dark-eyed Junco. Wildlife includes coyote, deer, river otter, black bear and mink.
