The Monongahela Incline overlooks one of the world's great cityscapes. Tourists marvel at the view as they ride one of only a few remaining inclines in the entire country. Opened May 28, 1870, the Monongahela Incline has been declared a historic structure by the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation and was later registered as a National Historic Landmark. Today, the incline is much more than a tourist attraction. It remains the best way for commuters on Mount Washington to get to work and to shop at nearby Station Square and Downtown Pittsburgh. Take a trip up the mountainside and experience this breathtaking view of Downtown Pittsburgh.
