In 1859, Edwin L. Drake, employed by the Pennsylvania Rock Oil Company, drilled the nation's first producing oil well. The modern petroleum industry was born out of his groundbreaking accomplishment. Today, Titusville's history is present in the Drake Well Museum, on the site of the original well in Oil Creek State Park, and the Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad, which winds through the nature and the history of Titusville.
