Founded in 1764, Chambersburg carries a rich history from the Colonial to Civil War periods. Visitors can learn more about historic Chambersburg by enjoying the Downtown Walking Tour or A Guided Tour of Historic Chambersburg, an audio tape tour. Copies of the tours are available in the Heritage Center, located in the Chamber of Commerce office building. The Center offers a glimpse of history in the Franklin County area as well as information about transportation history, the Underground Railroad, Civil War events, Architrecture and more. A Children's Room is available with period clothing to try on, games to play and compter presentations on the remaking of Benjamin Franklin's statue and more.
