Fairfield

Site of the Lee's retreat during the Civil War. After the failure of the Pickett-Pettigrew-Trimble charge on July 3, Lee led the retreat through Fairfield to Monterey Pass over South Mountain. This retreat resulted in a loss of 1,300 Union soldiers. While in town be sure to visit the Fairfield Inn. General Lee and his officers stopped here to dine on their way out of town.
