The McKeever Environmental Learning Center is nestled in a natural wooded setting 75 miles north of Pittsburgh, PA near Sandy Lake. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania created the McKeever Environmental Learning Center in 1974. The center is administered by Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania on behalf on the PA State System of Higher Education. The center offers educational programs for schools and serves as an outdoor laboratory for college students. It is a place where teachers can participate in environmental education workshops. The center is used for reatreats, workshops and conferences by numerous groups. Surrounded by 205 wooded acres, the center features five trails totaling four miles, and 10 buildings including an Auditorium, Dining Hall, Discovery Building (classrooms/offices) and three lodges which can accommodate 150 overnight guests and a Retreat Center. These facilities can be rented throughout the year.
