Elkwood Arts is a very unique program, administered by the Dickinson Mental Health Center and partially funded by Cameron & Elk Mental Health / Mental Retardation Program. It was started in 1994 as a way to meet the needs of disabled adults interested in woodworking. This licensed vocational facility provides sheltered employment and training to disabled adults, producing quality, hand-made furniture and products made entirely from hardwoods grown and harvested in the Pennsylvania Wilds and donated by area lumber mills. Most of the wood used in our products is certified sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council. Each of our products is crafted by our professional woodworkers/cabinet makers each of whom have at least 50 years of experience in making fine wood products. After each piece is built, it is sanded and finished by our sheltered employees, and then offered for retail to our customers.
