Culp's Hill

97 Taneytown Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325-2804 GET DIRECTIONS
Culp's Hill was a critical part of the Union army defensive line. Holding the hill was by itself unimportant because its heavily wooded sides made it unsuitable for artillery placement, but its loss would have been catastrophic to the Union army. Because of its location, the Union was able to block Confederate troops from Baltimore or Washington.
