Route: 30, Chester County

The rolling hills and open vistas of Chester County are the lovely backdrop to this bypass, just four miles north of West Chester. Enjoy the scenic grandeur of the Brandywine Valley as you explore the towns and attractions near this stretch of the historic Lincoln Highway.

Governor Casey

Route: 6, Lackawanna County near Scranton

Soak in bird's eye views of the amazing mountaintops of the historic Lackawanna River Valley. On your way into Scranton, stop and stretch your legs out at the Steamtown National Historic Site. It's the only site in the country dedicated to steam locomotion, complete with well-preserved examples of this old technology on display—and in action. Whistles and bells, steam and oil, and earth-shaking rumbling of these huge engines will make this a highlight of your journey.

Grand View

Route: Grandview Avenue, McArdle Roadway and Sycamore Streets, Pittsburgh

The lofty perch from atop Mt. Washington provides you with a breathtaking panoramic view of downtown Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle, where the Monongahela and Allegheny meet to form the Ohio River.

High Plateau

Route: 144 between Snow Shoe and Renovo in Clinton and Centre Counties

Stretching 27 miles between Snow Shoe and Renovo, this byway runs along the top of the Allegheny Ridge with unforgettable views of the Sproul State Forest. You’ll see more deer, bear, and elk than you’d ever imagined. In fact, the views have remained unchanged for more than a hundred years.

Lake Wilhelm

Route: Creek Road in Mercer County near Sandy Lake

Although the Lake Wilhelm Scenic Byway is only 6.4 miles long, it packs lots of fun in a short distance. The Byway follows part of the paved bike trail around the 1,860-acre lake in Maurice K. Goddard State Park, a wonderful place to play for hikers, picnickers, bicyclists, and anglers.

Lebanon Cornwall

Route: 419, Lebanon County

Sprinkled along this byway are quaint little towns that take you back to the early 1800s and its German settlers, with vintage buildings, tree-lined streets and down-home personality. Lebanon itself is worth an afternoon, with its farmers’ markets, outlets and specialty shops. And oh yeah, it’s the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Keep an eye out for horse drawn buggies and shoofly pies.
