A Different Side of Gettysburg

I help to run my family's fruit farm and market in Biglerville, near Gettysburg (the farm is the first item on my list, so be sure to visit us!). The Gettysburg area has so much more to offer than Civil War history---come and see what I mean.

So Whatcha Wanna Do Is

Pa Picks:

Hollabaugh Brothers Market

Most people don't realize that thousands of acres of fruit trees surround the town of Gettysburg; in fact, Adams County is the number-one producer of apples in the state. Just ten minutes north of Gettysburg sits Hollabaugh Brothers, Inc., a three-generation family-owned and operated fruit and vegetable farm. Schedule a tour of the 500-acre farm to see and learn all about what it means to be involved in agriculture in the 21st century, or just come to our retail market where fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and other goodies abound. Also be sure to check out our "educational bee room," where you can see two working beehives and learn about different farming practices and techniques.

Pub And Restaurant

Hungry? My absolute favorite restaurant in Gettysburg is The Pub, a great place for awesome burgers, salads, and an ice-cold beer. Don't forget the fries! The Pub sits right on the square of historic Gettysburg. Tip: Hit The Pub on a weeknight---reservations aren't accepted, and it's packed on weekends unless you go early.

Dobbin House Tavern

To immerse yourself completely in the town's history, try the Dobbin House Tavern, which offers fine dining in the Colonial manner. Reservations are recommended at The Dobbin House.

Totem Pole Playhouse

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is visit the Totem Pole Playhouse, located just west of Gettysburg. With a new play every two weeks during the summer, there's always a great show to see. The changing cast of professional actors comes from all over the nation to perform at the theater, so no matter what the genre, you're always in for an awesome show.

Ghosts of Gettysburg Candlelight Walking Tours

No trip to the Gettysburg area would be complete without a good scare. It was the location of several major Civil War battles, so there are plenty of good ghost stories to go around. Whether you're a believer or not, it's easy to get lost in the realistically recounted scary tales. Six different tours are offered, and most of them cost less than $10 a ticket!

Ragged Edge Coffeehouse

After a long day on the job or a hot summer afternoon, I always enjoy stopping by the Ragged Edge for a cup of joe or an iced coffee. Regular art gallery features and special music on weekends make it a great place to unwind. It's located two blocks down from the square.

Mom's Coffeepot

Another great place to get coffee and the best pie in town is Mom's Coffeepot---who said you can't have dessert for breakfast?
