The only town with an entrance to the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Somerset's location in the Laurel Highlands makes it a popular destination for bikers, hikers, and outdoors enthusiasts of every stripe. The Somerset Historical District reflects a variety of architectural styles. The most significant buildings in the district are the County Courthouse, the Somerset Trust Building, and the First National Bank building.
In addition to five state parks, the Somerset area is home to Fallingwater, Great Allegheny Passage Biking/Hiking Trail, Windber Coal Heritage Center, Mountain Playhouse and three resorts — Seven Springs, Hidden Valley, and Indian Lake.
