Creativity off the beaten path
Authentic Americana - it's around every corner in the State of Independence, and it flourishes along our Artisan Trails. These eight routes wind through Pennsylvania's unspoiled countryside and play host to potters, quilters, glassblowers, and other creative folks who make the everyday objects that reflect our heritage. We invite you to discover our hidden treasures and get to know our talented artists and artisans.
Over the years, Pennsylvania's rich agricultural and industrial history has inspired many to creative heights. Changing perspectives give rise to new interpretations of traditional arts and crafts; many utilitarian endeavors have evolved into creative ones as living standards have increased. From glass art to basketweaving to decorative ironwork, we can see our changing history in the objects we produce - and in how we use them. Art galleries, shops, and studios line our revitalized main streets, which in turn lead to the Artisan Trails where many of our most creative people work and live.
Throughout Pennsylvania's small towns, big cities, and farm villages, old-world customs and traditional folkways unite with a modern aesthetic to produce some of the most spectacular handcrafted goods you'll ever see. Come explore our Artisan Trails and experience for yourself how traditional ways adapt to changing times.
