The birth of our country is celebrated all across the fruited plain and especially in Washington County. Start early on June 29th with McSummerfest 2013 in McDonald. This family oriented, fun-filled week-long festival features nightly, live entertainment, food, games, carnival rides, and fireworks by Zambelli on July 5. Cities such as Charleroi, Monongahela and Canonsburg throw their own parties on the 4th, and history buffs celebrate the spirit of America with historical demonstrations and period games at Meadowcroft’s 19th century rural village and new 18th century frontier trading post.

The spirit of revolution turns into rebellion at the 3rd annual Whiskey Rebellion Festival, July 11-13, sponsored by The David Bradford House. Street theater, reenactments and demonstrations, music, food, a community parade and fireworks bring the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion to life on the streets of downtown Washington. Saturday night’s concert features the Grammy Award nominated bluegrass band, The SteelDrivers. Get your motor runnin’ the following Sunday the 14th at Classics on Main, the 9th annual car cruise event sponsored by the Covered Bridge Region Antique Automobile Club of America. Main Street revs with classic cars, antiques, trucks, hot rods, outside fine arts exhibits and anything on wheels on display. Lay some odds on the real horsepower at The Meadows Racetrack Casino in the month of July, as the track’s 50th Anniversary powers on with the 46th running of the Delvin Miller Adios Stakes, a prestigious race for 3 year old pacers. Then step back from the track and stroll into the fun at the casino’s abundant slots, table games, dining options and entertainment.

Chicks dig the long ball, which is why all fans head to Washington for the Frontier League All-Star Game, July 15-17, hosted by the Washington Wild Things at CONSOL Energy Park. Three days of events include youth clinics, womens' softball exhibitions, a home run derby, and the All Star Game itself. If baseball is not your game, head out to where current and future stars of the PGA Tour play at The Mylan Classic, July 29-August 4 at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg. Come for the pros and stay for the shows, as Pure Gold, Bon Journey, and Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn fame light up the night during tournament week.

That’s just a few ways Washington County can power up your weekend and summer. Come see us, and let our energy take you places.
